Real Steal Galil and AK

Well, I had an interesting evening at a family birthday. Going out to a cousin who was a gun collector I thought I would bring some airsoft too.

It was amazing, as we did some airsoft target shooting, just how well he shot. I guess real steel experience makes you a good shooter, be it airsoft or gunpowder. Using the G36 (tightbore, etc.) he was able to land one shot after another in semi on a series of twelve cans assorted up/down all over a snow bank. I use dually impressed as was he with the accuracy and power of the airsoft gun. He really enjoyed what the electric (what he called them) guns could do.

For my enjoyment he had "grandfathered" an AK and Galil with full mags. The real steel AK felt considerably different then the airsoft AK's, completely different balance and weight. Having never felt an airsoft Galil before, the real steal was differently balanced from the AK, but felt more comfortable.

Moral here, real steal is not airsoft but the skills gained from both are kind of transferrable, I would hate to play a game against him.

Unfortunately, you can't legally fire either of those guns in Canada. Prohibs (12(1) through 12(6)) are basically dust collectors nowadays.

Heh heh, yeah, no go with the shooting, strictly a "collectors" item. The fact that he was able to get them with full 30 rnd mags and everything was a complete surprise. When he walk out with the Galil with a full sized mag I was like "how in the #$@$ did you get a full mag". Since the are "grandfathered" he is allowed to have them, but getting permits to transport, he mumbled something about that...

Care to clarify a wee bit more about all of this? I kind of know what grandfathering is but I take it that it allows nothing more than possession? How does this all fall under the PAL, which I find confusing at best.
