M14 Bulldog 7.62 replica project

just figured I'd throw this up here. I discovered a bullpup designed M14 rifle conversion project, and I thought to myself, if it can be done in realsteel, why not airsoft?

the idea is to basically make an M4 sized rifle that has the internal capabilities to be a DSR one day, though for the time being I know I'm not good enough to be a sniper, so I'm just going to be making my M14 a little easier to handle with this project.

so, any thoughts on the project? materials the new stock should be made from etc? first model I'm probably making it from wood, then hopefully CNC machined aluminum once I get a working design

Looks pretty sweet but I don't know how you can move the trigger assembly ahead of the magazine without totally replacing the mechbox. Likely a lot less work to convert it to a Socom M14. If you want a bullpup, I'd just flog the M14 and get an Aug.

well, actually, I've already devised a system to move the trigger assembly, basically, I'm making a new one in the stock that will connect to the original circuit so that I can put this gun into any stock and it will still function

Seems like a shitload of work just to turn it into a bullpup. Can't wait to see it though, it looks pretty wicked.

how does the mag release?

I'll be using the same system to release the mag, but that may have to be played with a little...

the motor does not stick down like in a m4 mechbox it sticks out behind it more than anything so it would end up being in the but of the gun the trigger on this i belive is just a switch meaning it would be relativly simple to move up

he's right, its a relatively simple thing to do once the stock is built

You should really take a look at the innards of the AUG. It will give you a good idea of what works and what won't

I think it will basically be styled after the FAMAS G2 sniper, since I have quite a long barrel (520mm)

Looks like a fun project.

The butt of the stock will have to be longer than what your picture shows to accommodate the M14's motor. You could also rig up a trigger system that simple moves the original trigger of the M14; if of course, the wiring becomes too complex. If you take a look at some of the real conversions guys have done with a Ruger 10/22 (i.e. P90) the system becomes pretty simple.

Kind of sad to see such a sweet gun go to the dogs, but I guess everyone has different tastes.

I would have suggested maybe a Garand conversion, but this is certainly different...

I'm liking my current trigger design. its been suggested to me to put in a MOSFET to protect the contacts, though I'm not sure my current setup is worth a MOSFET, do they make that much of a difference?

I'm pretty sure the only reason you would put one in is to make it into three round burst. I haven't heard anything about them protecting the contacts.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. New contacts are cheap and I really haven't seen too many crap out.
