M14 teardown

Well, I got an M14 March 27th and today my brother and I decided to tear it apart and look for any brand markings (we found absolutely none) and we also wanted to learn how it all works and whats going on.

I have seen that motor sticker a few times. I can't remember if it's off of my Jing Gong or something else. Either way when you are dealing with Chinese stuff there is lots of rebranding and whatnot so all you may ever know is that it's a China made m14. Can't wait to see that indoors...OK I can't wait to see that HUGE barrel come around the corner.

yeah jason and I tried it and if I'm walking slow its so painfully obvious, hence why I'm using the pistol


Oh! and as for current repairs/problems

The Hopup looks kinda old, may need some replacing, though seems to function normally

The brass tightbore barrel seems tacky and a little worn, might be replaced

The bolt and action are trashed, the bolt cover actually flew off broken in several pieces when I opened and close it in normal operation

The safety switch needs to be replaced since it broke off while disassembling the gun

The upper rails are missing, not received on purchase so I'm looking into buying new ones

The bolt catch is also missing, causing the bolt to catch (ironically) on the hole that created

and other than that it seems to be in pretty good condition, I didn't want to crack open the gearbox just yet, so that remains a story for another day. This is definitely a project gun, it may or may not be functioning for the april 16th game

PS. the only thing I managed to fix was the trigger guard, which now stays in place rather securely. I also tried to fix the bolt action with some gun lube and a little solder to fill the holes... that failed miserably as the bolt it now destroyed. Thankfully it serves no functional purpose

as for the barrel try cleening with some gause swabs and gun oil. then run some dry swabs through may fix the tacky problem.

Tightbores would only really need to be replaced if there are scratches on the inside or a bend in the barrel. What do you mean by tacky?

Being a Chinese made gun with lots of moving parts the more work you do on it the more problems you usually find/make in my experience.

fair enough. by tacky I mean theres gunk on it, it feels restrictive and I was reading that when the barrel gets old the coatings come off making them less effective.

we'll see how this thing preforms when we finally get a charger for it

Not sure if you mean actual gun oil or silicon oil. I wouldn't use real gun oil, it is usually a penetrating oil and can destroy your seals, your hopup rubber as well as dissolve bearing and cylinder grease in your gearbox. There should be no carbon or rust deposits in your barrel which would require a penetrating oil to clean. Normal silicon oil should be fine.

anything down the barrel should be soft as well. I saw the inside of a barrel someone took a gun brush to and it was not pretty. Easy way to ruin a barrel.

gause is pretty soft stuff and i meant silicon oil. im a competative air rifle marksman and for me gun oil is silicon oil for that reason

How does it shoot? Thankfully its a TM replica and you aren't stuck with a G&G or CA.

Just making sure, some people are total noobs to airsoft but have lots of experience with real steel. If they hear gun oil they may just grab the gun oil from their real steel cleaning kits which could totally screw their airsoft guns. Thought it would be best to clarify.

well, the oil parts I used it on was metal on metal slide, no seals, no rubber and no internals were cleaned, I may use alchohol swabs to clean it up if needed.

I dont have a battery for it so I dont know how, or if, it shoots

just bought a charger, and put bigger connections on the batteries

standard 2 pin molex adapter so it can fit pretty much any battery now, fires well thus far, good ROF and unknown FPS, though seems acceptable
