2.75 bb's per second with a bolt action isn't very likely in your typical game scenario where you have a moving target and you're trying to remain stealthy. The entire point of having a sniper rifle is to have controlled, accurate shots with the added advantage of no brass flying through the air after you take your shot.

If you're firing 3 bb's per second as a sniper then you're not being very realistic and you are definitely not taking careful shots to reduce the likelihood of injuring someone.

Regardless, it's still a lot different than 15 bb's per second that you'd get with a stock AEG.

PostSubject: Re: Misc   Misc - Page 2 EmptySat 02 May 2009, 1:47 pm

I'm not going to go into depth trying to defend myself as it was plainly irresponsible and dangerous for me not to chrono the gun before hand.

On that note, I really think that no matter what each and every gun that is going to be used in a game should be chrono'd prior to the game. I forget if we had been doing that the past, but it would help prevent people, like me, from using 'hot' guns in a limited fps environment.

I don't think we need to get on the discussion of realistic or game situations as they do change and depend on each person's background and gaming type.

However, I do have to agree with Dave and Wayne that it should be bolts only that shoot that hot.

I should have probably said something in a less public area sorry Bill, it wasn't my intention to put you on the spot.

And since you didn't answer my question, I will ask it again. Have you tried an aluminum piston yet? If you added on of those piston head pads I would think that it may be able to last longer than the polycarbonate ones.

I agree with this, some guys tend to try out cheaper brands of bb's that others wouldn't dream of putting through their guns.

If we have a new, un-opened bag of high quality 0.2's available and everyone uses bb's from that bag for the chrono then there shouldn't be an issue.

Gryph wrote:
Problem with shooting from a common bag is I won't always do that as I run a Tight bore in most of my guns. I will gladly take rounds out of my own bag of .2 in front of people to prove that they aren't 25s.

I haven't tried an aluminum piston yet cause I cause I can't find one for sale that's a half toothed piston. If you know of somewhere that has those for sale please let me know.

Would one of these work? I would imagine steel teeth would be stronger than aluminum?

You would want brand name stuff when you are going for FPS that high. Gaurder, Systema etc. Element is the chinese knock off brand that I use all the time.

Can't find any in those brands you recommended in Canada Mr.Horton, which is what he asked. I've found all sorts in the US. I'm checking with one of the local distributors about a Prometheus or systemA one, but waiting to hear back.

PostSubject: Re: Misc   Misc - Page 2 EmptySun 03 May 2009, 7:38 pm

I wouldn't want to be playing against anyone shooting over 350fps indoors. Even 350 is a bit hot.

twsmith wrote:
After playing an indoor CQB game with a half dozen Krakens shooting at me, I'd tend to agree. Not to come off as a whiner, but I was wearing full BDU's and a paintball mask and I still had a tonne of welts all over my
body. It's a good thing you put softer springs in your rentals or it would have been multiple bleeders. Smile

We should probably boost the limit slightly for full auto outdoors 0-365 so a person with a stock Kraken can use it full auto for outdoors and increase the semi auto limit to 310-365 for indoors for CQB. That way new players can buy stock Krakens and use them for any kind of game.

Outdoors
401-500 bolt action only
366-400 semi only
0-365 full auto

Indoors
0-310 full auto
311-365 semi only.

We should also standardize our chrono tests, ie. to confirm the fps we should take the average of 3 shots. Maybe you've already been doing that anyway, but we should have it recorded in the rules.

The ploycarb with a few steel teeth isn't enough because it strips the polycarb teeth. I have found aluminum pistons but I can't find any that are half tooth.

PostSubject: Re: Misc   Misc - Page 2 EmptyTue 05 May 2009, 11:05 am

well Bill said its chewing up the poly parts of a piston that had some metal teeth. I'm thinking that an aluminum piston will just get chewed up quicker because aluminum is softer, and in my mind would half teeth be weaker than full teeth? Wouldn't it? At any rate, maybe there is a timing issue, if its out enough and causes a bind half way through the cycle, could be why it destroying the poly teeth that are PAST the metal ones. Without the piston in the gearbox and cycling it by hand is the tappet plate binding? or trying actuate before it's supposed too?

I already did the check were I turned it by hand and it didn't bind. I think I'm just going to have to go with a weaker spring.

I do have to lean on the same side as knight about the half teeth, although if that's what the gears are for, then that's what you should be using. Stripped pistons aren't always caused by timing issues, as timing really doesn't play that much of a factor into things. It basically all resets itself once it gets cycled anyways.

You may want to stick with the brand names that Horton said earlier. Check out guarder, systema - just to name a few
