PostSubject: Grenade rules for CQB   Thu 17 Jan 2008, 2:56 pm

Just wondering if we had any specific rules for grenades in CQB. Personally I think tennis balls shouldn't be allowed. We have access to grenades that explode or make noise and I think we should stick to them and encourage their use. Also available at wain's army surplus is gas powered grenades that work. Personally I hate having this yellow thing land near you then have some one yell boom. It takes away from the realism and wrecks the game.

funny story about the gas grenades...month or so ago i stopped by to see what was floatin around the army surplus and wayne was tellin me about them, and ad never tryed um out, turns out i had a can of green gas...after we blew it up a couple times we realised the timer was more around 15-20 seccends, this is probly cureable by spraying silicon lube on the rubber piece that lets the pin out, after a couple trys we "over charged" it, after the time went it made a crazy loud noise, shot BBs everywere and split in half, still works its pritty hard to find al the pieces. they word good and i recomend them

I'd say no tennis ball grenades. If there are other creative grenades (noise, flash or shrapnel) then I would be open,

Hey Spork I was talking to him before I bought it. Turns out if you read the directions to timer is adjustable. You can tighten or loosen two screws that sreaze the timer.

Tennis balls are still the safest am I correct? Who cares if its not realistic, no one can accidently get hurt with a tennis ball, and we can't have things explode indoors... or can we?

I would say that if you can think of something more creative, by all means, but it has to be safe, that means it has to be controllable.

And as far as realism goes, I think we should drop that term, airsoft grenades aren't realistic. A spray of 88 dry peas will still not cover a large distance. I think the best idea is still dummy grenades, yelling 'frag out' and waiting for 3 seconds or whatever and whoever is in an open area and within (10-15 feet) is dead. I don't think we need realism here. Just a thought.

The grenade I got is completly safe. It doesn't so much explode as split a part spraying BB's in a cloud of white powder and make a bang. I can also set it off without bb's. I got my Mom with it that way and it went off about 6" away from her and besides scaring the crap out of her it didn't do a thing to her.

Any idea of the fps of the bb's? As if it went off right beside someone's ear?

Crazy, my post didn't post and now I have to redo, nah...

Anyways, quick call. CQB is about realism. Throw a grenade in, they should be able to kick a table over for cover. Radius kills are too encompassing. Mind you, real grenades have air compression effects in confined spaces. Blah blah blah, basically, I see grenades are more distraction devices than anything due to their lack of realistic spray.

Also, there are trip wire devices and landmines to worry about too for the attacking team. Nothing like a booby trapped crack house!!!

I just watched a good episode of Weaponology about the British SAS and they mentioned their kill house which most law enforcement and military units have adapted as their primary CQB training facility. Pretty sweet setup, 2 floors with multiple rooms and random badguys & hostages. The SAS uses live ammo & flashbangs though so ours probably won't have the intensity. Smile

We have tried going super realism and found that a balance between gaming and realism works best. Remember the real hit rules? Hard to keep track of and confuses most players.

No pyro indoors but there are sonic grenades and those gas ones are safe. I owned one and there is no danger of it going off close to skin...they went off in my hand all the time.

No Steve, funny was you taking flight from the tower.
I've got some bouncy balls that make boinging noises and flash. My kids throw them at each other in the house. i've always wondered if they'd be acceptable to use or just dorky. real greandes don't go 'boing boing boing'. Of course real grenades really kill and I dont want that right now either.

That is barely a joule of energy. Put 50 BB's hitting you at once, things get a little bit more interesting. This club has pride in being safe compared to many other clubs. We are very strict on our eye wear, and keep our FPS quite in line.

This CQC is going to be essential that we keep our rules and regs enforced due to the more limited environment. Sealed goggles are a must and face protection is going to be highly recommended!

Just talking to the JOC guys. They use glow sticks with different colours and when they stop moving and you are near them you are dead. Bring out different options and we'll try them out.

caps on a mouse trap? Toss it in and BANG! Sounds a little dangerous but might be worth trying...I'll take a few for the team to test.

My comment wasn't directed towards the safety record of the club or the history of safety of Airsoft in general, My point was simply that playing airsoft you put your self in the line if fire of bb guns in excess of 300 fps but suddenly worried about simulated grenades that has a fps of less than 100. ..... seems kind if silly.

PostSubject: Re: Grenade rules for CQB   Sun 20 Jan 2008, 11:19 am

Umm I would say referring to keeping things controlled. The tendency with the grenades that I have seen is that there is no controllable way to monitor the fps of them. Hence the danger of saying one going off by someone's ear etc. We also have some sort of min. engagement distances with our 300 fps rifles. I would hope your not going to shoot me when your right beside me.

I think all the points are good, and I was more or less trying to see the reasoning behind why no tennis balls or simulated grenades. I have nothing against us using stuff that goes BOOM, or that flash etc. Heck I'm probably not even going to get a chance to play here, I was just trying to figure why we just factored out simulated grenades.

Well I'm not really worried about the smell of vinegar. Just more worried about my nice gear getting wrecked by the vinegar.
