Had a few hours to kill and no internet, boredom equals doing something tedious.

Finished large and source (yeah, I need to get some pics of the gun, hard to do when stuck in camp).

So, this is your dream for this gun?

Sorry to snap you back to reality here (I love fantasy as much as the next guy), but where are you planning on putting that monster of a 12 volt battery so you can run the M150 (semi-auto only of course)? You can make permanent semi auto pretty easy, and nobody could touch you with the range of the M150.

I don't think that a PRS stock is very battery-friendly, in any size.

PostSubject: Re: Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema   Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema EmptyThu 25 Oct 2007, 10:33 pm

No, this is my current gun, with PRS stock and the Metaltech front, ACOG, etc. Battery goes in battery bag, I got the Systema to play with so atheistics may be lacking with a strap-on but it works well (which was well proven at the Sim).

The PRS was a really pain in the arse, since the Systema does NOT come with a realistic sized buffertube, neither width nor length, what a crock (thus my earlier rant, that is why I was complaining about the tube). A bit of drilling for the wiring and an added custom slip on tube and the PRS fits on great. Mind you, the battery is an issue, but with winter play coming up, having a vest-side pack is not a bad idea, especially since I already have the gun on a strap to the CIRAS. If I decided to risk LiPo, I could fit a bit in the buffer tube, but that would be an interesting and risky project.

I will be out of camp early December (they keep doing resets and pushing the closing date), but Dave will attest to the PRS, Magpuls, RIS, etc etc. I will post the pictures of the finished gun as soon as I get that @#$* barrel nut off. I really need to pick up a proper gun wrench, the Goose neck pliers did nothing to get the darn nut off.

Basing it slightly off my old setups:

Oh yeah, that and I grab a M130 cylinder. Seems to fit within our rules. Need to chrono the whole setup though.

ummm not to be a stickler... but if thats a rural assault gun, why is it so long? Navigating hallways and other close quarters would really hinder that whep.

PostSubject: Re: Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema   Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema EmptyThu 25 Oct 2007, 11:17 pm

I get 385-395 fps with the M130 and 0.25s. So that would put you at about 430ish with 0.20s.

You should just get a real AR buffer tube, even used would be fine. Then you would have another reason to get an armourer's wrench. If you had an M4, likely the PRS would have fit with little to no work. If you want precision as well, get Doff to do you up a 6.03 or even a 6.01 barrel if he can. $200 ain't bad, considering you'd pay $80 for a barrel and $50 for the hop-up anyways.

I've got a line on another old Gen 1 that's DOA, but the platform is there that I can bring them both up to a MAX level and make some other new additions perform in a counter-sniper-sneaky-bastard role.

Yeah, I asked around looking for a buffertube. Hard to find locally or in-stock (Dawson Creek nothing, and they are a large store). Since I cut the C-Cards, online shopping is limited to Paypal Checking or EMT. If you happen to know someone who takes EMT, give me a shout, elsewise I will have to pop back to the CC's and just get it normally, at least they are only around ~$20. Mind you, question, the back plate on the tube, that holds the cylinder tight, is that connected to the whole tube or not (2 pieces)?

Also, the M4 slide tube will not hold a PRS, just one of the other million sweet stocks available, but the M16A3 was the only one available at the time that was not a Kit at A&A.

Yeah, Mike, this Christmas, if you come back, we will have to have a space gun war, ha ha ha.

You can't put a PRS on a standard retratcable tube? I thought that you could, seeing how most guys that buy that sort of thing don't usually have a telestock wrench.

On the real gun, the buffer cap is permanent, as it has to withstand signicant force from the bolt carrier compressing the buffer spring.

The cap on my M16 has the bearing in it, rather than in the cylinder, so it is in about 4 pieces, but I'm damned if I could get it apart, even after manufacturing a special tool to do the job. Yours might be easier, but I would think the MAX-style stock pipe for M16 would only need to be made in one piece.

PostSubject: Re: Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema   Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema EmptySat 27 Oct 2007, 12:38 am

heh heh, there are some differences between slide tubes and normal buffer tubes, as you well know from RS:

Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema Pictur10
http://magpul.com/pdfs/technotes/prs/TN-PRSInstall.pdf

On the PTW, the cap I am talking about is the inside cap, that blocks access to the tube and allows the bearing to snap into place on the cylinder, is it a seperate piece from the include M16A3 tube? Yeah, you might be right, the cap and the buffer tube might be two pieces so I could get away with a RS buffer tube, I really hope so. Would you happen to know anywhere that is carrying one for sale?

Thanks,
-Doug

PostSubject: Re: Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema   Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema EmptySat 27 Oct 2007, 10:51 am

The top one is a AR15 buffer tube for a full stock, while the lower is for a collapsible stock, pretty obvious.

The real one should be pretty easy to get and you may even be able to put an 11.1v LiPo inside the tube, even though I don't recommend use of a non-systema battery. Others on the PTW-users forum have been able to do it with the collapsible stock by chopping about 1/2 inch off the EL-003 board and re-routing some connections.

You could try to pry out the buffer cap with a small flat-blade screwdriver and see if it pops out like in the M4's. If so, just pick up a real buffer tube and you're in business.

PostSubject: Re: Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema   Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema EmptySat 27 Oct 2007, 2:46 pm

Yeah, that is exactly what I am aiming for. Mind you, I fully agree about the use of Systema batteries only, especially since they only seem to aim for NiCad's for some reason? Meh, battery bags don't bother me much, the performance of the PTW is great and that is what I got it for.

Here is the two PTW MAX tech diagrams:
Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema Pictur10

It seems that the full stock diagram is incorrect and is missing that little cap, so at least it seems that the cylinder cap is removable from the buffer tube if the diagram is wrong.

That is an old diagram. Although the M4 side is correct, the M16 side has made some changes. The MAX-style stock pipe is available as a complete replacement part for guys like me with Gen 1 guns. And to think I did some work to a MAX M16 this summer, but I didn't pay attention to the stock pipe.

Heh, how about that, that was a gen 3 diagram, download wasn't that clear... In that case, yeah, the diagram is wrong and has the new gen Max pipe which does come in two pieces, tube and cylinder plate.

Rain Day = Pixel Art for Systema Pictur11
(M4 Pic, but exactly the same setup on M16)

Now, to do some CanadianGunNutz work and track down a buffer tube. I hate surfing RS sites and seeing the real thing being cheaper than Airsoft... bah...

Any comments on:

-seems t be the only place that takes EMT...

Good to hear. Unfortunately...

Now having done some additional reading on their site, they also seem to only sell to PAL holders, accessories and parts included... Being a non-card holder, I guess I am SOL...

Shooting Edge is absolutely insane for prices... and have no online component from what I can tell.... CC only I guess.

bah, I have spent over three hours with little luck here. Finding just the tube is next to imposible, let alone someone with one in stock (Dawson Creek has a 6 week order wait...).

If anyone has some inside connections or what not, give me a shout, most appreciated,

Try P&D enterprises in Edmonton. They do carry some AR parts and accessories, but they didn't have a ton last time I was in there this summer. I bought my AR there.

Just an update fool around, got snowed out at work today. Grabbed a CASV from Redwolf when the dollar was high, got a CQBR barrel set from Empire, should be a nice little swap when the CQB starts up in the New Year.
